the London Office of the Palestine Police Force
(telephone ABBey 2532) telephoned yesterday to say
that Mr. Gray, the Inspector-General of the Palestine
Police Force, had telephoned the London Office
informing them that he had recommended Mr. T.E.Clunie,
Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police, for
transfer to one of the vacancies in Hong Kong. He

telegram to Mr. Clunie asking him to call at their
London Office to obtain information regarding
conditions of service, salary etc. in Hong Kong.

to interview Mr. Clunie. The London Office has also
received a telegram from Mr. Clunie saying that he
will call on them tomorrow. He is coming down from
York. I gave Mr. Chestnut particulars of the post in
Hong Kong and informed him that there would be no

that we could not act on this telephone message from
Jerusalem until we receive confirmation from the
High Commissioner, especially as there were other
candidates to be considered. I also told
Mr. Chestnut that if Mr. Clunie wished to have an
interview at the Colonial Office that he was at
liberty to call at Park Street and that he would be
